Long-term care insurance covers 2.6 years in assisted living, on average: report

By comparison, in nursing homes, long-term care insurance policies cover an average of 1.5 years. There, private rooms cost $127,750 and semi-private rooms cost $111,325 annually, on average." More than 6.9 million people nationwide were covered by long-term care insurance in 2024, the research found. AHIP compiled 2024 data from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners and CareScout's cost of care survey. Assisted living apartment burglary investigation in Dover

Long-term care home in Lantzville now planned to be six storeys

(Stantec image) Island Health's planned long-term care home is has made it through another stage of the approval process, with allowances for changes to the design of what will be a six-storey facility with 306 beds. An Island Health project team presented to District of Lantzville council at a meeting Nov. 12, and the zoning and official community plan amendment passed second reading after a previous second reading was rescinded. Modifications to the plans include increasing the maximum permitted height from 25 metres to 33, and decreasing the south parcel line setback from 15 metres to seven metres. A planned two-storey parking garage has also been eliminated from the design due to cost pressures, in favour of surface parking for 160 spaces.
